Description
Pieris japonica cultivar ‘Flamingo’ Lily of the valley bush.
An elegant and hardy broadleaf evergreen that offers something for every season, Japanese pieris is an upright medium-sized shrub from East Asia. The cultivar ‘Flamingo’ provides ample year-round ornament with its large drooping chains of red flower buds in winter, its rose-red fading to rose-pink urn-shaped flowers in late winter or early spring, and its glossy-green laurel like leaves. The flower clusters resemble those of lily of the valley. It grows slowly into a picturesque open-branched shrub with attractive peeling bark.
With its interesting branching habit, attractive foliage, unique showy blooms, Japanese pieris is an excellent addition to partially shaded areas of the garden. Preferring moist, acidic, well-drained soil, it works well in a border, as a specimen, or for informal screening and hedging. Toward the margins of its hardiness range it requires protection from harsh conditions such as wind, drought, and severe heat or cold. H x W 2mtrs
