Description
Clethra arborea “Lily of the valley tree” a large evergreen shrub or small – medium tree endemic to Madeira (Portuguese archipelago). It is broadly conical with red young shoots in spring and has glossy dark evergreen leaves up to 15 cm long.
The very fragrant white flowers are cup shaped (8mm across) and are produced on masse in lax, terminal racemes up to 15 cm long. Flowering occurs from January May. It can grow to a small tree up to 8m tall or hedged to height required.
Fantastic large pot / tub specimen plant.
