Description
‘Ricki’ is primarily noted for its compact shrubby habit, reddish-purple flowers and late bloom.
Deciduous large shrub or small tree up to 3 – 4 mtrs tall and wide. It blooms in later spring, with goblet-shaped, deep reddish/purple flowers.
Care: Grow in moist, well-drained, preferably acidic to neutral soil in sun or partial shade; magnolias do not tolerate wet feet. Prune trees and deciduous shrubs in late winter or late summer to prevent bleeding of sap; prune minimally to maintain a healthy framework. Ovate medium green leaves (to 6” long) turn yellow to bronze-copper in fall. May be grown as a tall informal hedge.
