Acacia verniciflua ‘Spicy’
Aussie gardeners need at least one wattle, whether the setting is formal or relaxed, native, non-native or mixed. The beauty of Spicy™ is that it fits into every one of them. Small to medium at two metres in height, its graceful arching branches spread from a slender trunk; a delicate tracery of foliage catches the light, and is spangled with golden balls of flowers in spring. Sickle-shaped foliage highly aromatic particularly in warm weather, It’s such a light plant you can add it to just about anywhere, and one of the best ideas is to tuck it in along a pathway, in dappled light. Walk along the path after rain and your nose will be twitching as Spicy’s foliage releases its lip-licking fragrance. Minimal pruning only, good drainage, full sun or light shade and cool to dry climates. A little protection from salt winds is needed if planted by the coast, but inland heavy frost is not a problem for Spicy™.
