S. muirii is one of the few from South Africa. It was discovered in the 1920’s and was noted for its excellent summer flowering. It is a small open plant growing to around 40cm. The small grey green leaves have an unusual medicinal fragrance. The flowers are a delightful violet blue with a broad white slash down the centre of the lower lip.

Salvia muirii prefers full sun and well drained soil and is tolerant of light frosts. It performs best with an annual feed of Osmocote Outdoor Trees and Shrubs and prune after flowering. Salvia muirii makes an attractive border plant, does well in a mass planting or can be planted as a specimen plant in a small perennial garden. It looks good with a selection of Correas or dwarf lavenders. 50mm pot
