Description
Philadelphus coronarius ‘aureus’ Of all the philadelphus species and varieties, P. coronarius is probably the most widely grown. It is a tough drought-resistant species from southern Europe and the Caucasus, cultivated for centuries and the source of many fine garden varieties. ‘Aureus’ is the best coloured form, with bright golden leaves that become soft greenish gold as summer advances, providing a long display of out-of-season colour in the border. The foliage is slightly tender and needs shelter to protect it from both late frosts and full scorching sunlight. The Royal Horticultural Society have given it their prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
