Garrya elliptica ‘James Roof’ – Catkin shrub, Silk tassel bush.
Large vigorous bushy upright evergreen shrub with leathery dark green leaves. Spectacular display in Winter/Spring of very long catkin like tassels up to 30cm. Also makesfor a great espalier or specimen tree in a large tub.
Copes in a wide range of soils but grows best in a well-drained moderately fertile soil in full sun or partial shade. It prefers a sheltered sunny spot and can live in coastal conditions. This shrub does not like to be moved so it is best to avoid transplanting it once it has become established. Shelter from frosts in very cold climates
Grows up 3.0m wide and 2.0m high.
