Cordyline australis purpurea – Cabbage tree/Palm
Description: Native of New Zealand. A single trunked small palm-like tree that will branch after flowering. Each branch is crowned with a head of strappy red/purple leaves with slightly scented sprays of white flowers in spring. Cordyline Australis can reach a height of up to 10 metres tall.
Climate Guide: Cold and frost tolerant, wind tolerant, salt tolerant, drought tolerant. Very hardy in full sun or part shade.
Planting Season: All Year round.
Fertilising: Responds well to organic mulch and slow release fertiliser in spring.
Watering: Needs water when young but becomes more drought tolerant once established.
Ideal For: When young, Cordyline Australis purpurea looks great in tubs and is great for sculptural effects and massed planting in groves.
